Quote from Consumers Digest
Motoring into U.S. showrooms in both sedan and coupe variations, the Nissan Altima is a sportier alternative in the midsize segment, with more aggressive handling than what is the norm, although this means it also has a slightly edgier ride. A reasonably strong 175-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine should please most buyers; a speedier 270-hp 3.5-liter V6 comes with SE and SL models but adds considerably to the car's cost. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the 2.5S and 3.5SE trim levels; a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard on the 2.5 and 3.5SL trims and optional on the other two versions. We prefer the CVT, which delivers smooth and seamless acceleration when you need to hit the passing lane. The Altima is nicely styled, with a roomy interior that seats four adults in comfort (a fifth can squeeze in back when necessary). It can be fitted with a generous list of high-tech options, including a rear-view video monitor that's essential for anyone who has difficulty with parallel parking.
[1] The Nissan Altima received the lowest number of problems per 100 vehicles among midsize cars in the proprietary J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Initial Quality StudySM. Study based on responses from 80,930 new-vehicle owners, measuring 245 models and measures opinions after 90 days of ownership. Proprietary study results are based on experiences and perceptions of owners surveyed in February-May 2009. Your experiences may vary. Visit jdpower.com.
